Southern SARE Searching for Assistant Director

GRIFFIN, Georgia – The Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SSARE) program is searching for a new Assistant Director to join the staff at the University of Georgia – Griffin campus. SARE, a USDA-funded program, supports sustainable agriculture production and marketing practices, mainly through grants for farmers/ranchers, researchers, non-profits, and other ag professionals. In the Southern region, the program supports sustainable agricultural initiatives across the following states and U.S. territories: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

Southern SARE’s Assistant Director manages the program’s three small grant programs: Graduate Student Grants, On-Farm Research Grants, and Producer Grants from the release of the Calls through the life of funded grant projects, overseeing proposal process and reviews and assisting grant applicants with the grant management process.

The Assistant Director also manages the projects database for SSARE’s entire grant portfolio, reviewing annual and final reports of active grant projects, providing feedback and progress on funded projects across all grant programs. Additionally, the Assistant Director assists staff with the maintenance of the website architecture and functionality to ensure it meets the needs of applicants, reviewers and grantees, and works with Communications and Outreach to publicize and promote research-based results.

The position requires some travel throughout the region, collaborating with the Communications Specialist to represent and promote SSARE at local, regional and national events as needed.

The role is a supervisory position, managing staff in program administrative tasks and supporting the Program Director in Program Oversight as needed.
