Aquatic Mammal Management on Agricultural Lands

Created with SARE support

These resources were created by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension to assist landowners in the sustainable management of ponds, wetlands and wildlife.

This video addresses the control and management of problematic aquatic mammals, such as beavers and nutria, which can cause significant damage to aquatic ecosystems and infrastructure. It covers effective strategies and best practices for managing these species to protect water bodies and maintain ecological balance.

Managing Avian Damage in Aquatic Habitats

Across the state of Texas, birds rely on a variety of aquatic habitats to meet needs ranging from foraging habitat and water access to shelter from their own predators and everything in between. Conflicts can develop when birds concentrate on aquatic habitats economically or recreationally important to humans.

A Landowners Guide: Aquatic Site Visits

When having a professional come to your property for a pond evaluation, it is important to be prepared to ensure they receive adequate information to create an informed management plan. This is a checklist to guide landowners on what information to have available for professionals, such as their County Extension Agent, prior to them visiting the waterbody. This checklist may also be a useful tool to conduct your own initial assessment of the current state of your pond or when purchasing a new property with an existing pond.
