Professional Development Program Grant Committee Tutorial: Steps to Reviewing Proposals

The Professional Development Program Grant Committee is involved in the review and selection of the following Southern SARE Grants:

  • Professional Development Program Grants

Professional Development Program Grants

Professional Development Program Grants, known as train-the-trainer grants, are available to help further education and outreach strategies for ag professionals and ag educators who work directly with farmers and ranchers.

Professional Development Program Grants involve a pre-proposal and full proposal application process. Applicants whose pre-proposals are selected will be invited to submit a full proposal.

Professional Development Program Grant pre-proposals open in July with an application deadline in August. In October, selected pre-proposal applicants are invited to submit a full proposal. The full proposal application deadline is November, with Professional Development Program Grants announced in February.

The Southern SARE Professional Development Program Committee is involved in screening pre-proposals at the close of the pre-proposal grant deadline. At the full proposal stage, a team of outside technical reviewers score the full proposals. Once the technical reviewers have completed their reviews, the Professional Development Program Committee reviews and makes funding recommendations to the full Administrative Council.

The following Professional Development Program Grant Review tutorial provides guidance for reviewing proposals so that both seasoned and new Committee members are prepared to put forth the most effective train-the-trainer projects to help farmers further sustainable agriculture practices across the Southern region.
