Administrative Council Subcommittees

Southern SARE's Administrative Council is made up of six standing subcommittees:

Operations/Nominating: The role of the Operations/Nominating Committee is to develop and recommend budgets and policies for the AC. The committee recommends a list of candidates to serve as officers of the AC. The committee also solicits and recommends new members of the AC as vacancies occur.

Project Review: The task of the Project Review Committee (PRC) is to establish goals and criteria for the evaluation of proposals and the funding of projects. Project Review Committee is a grant review committee that reviews, scores and selects proposals for the following grant programs: Research and Education Grants, Educations Grants, and Graduate Student Grants.

Producer Grant: The Producer Grant Committee’s task is to establish goals and criteria for the evaluation of proposals and the review of Producer Grants. In addition, the Producer Grant Committee is also responsible for the On-Farm Research Grants program. The Producer Grant Committee is a grant review committee that reviews, scores and selects proposals for the following grant programs: Producer Grants, On-Farm Research Grants.

Professional Development Program: The work of the Professional Development Program (PDP) Committee is to establish goals and criteria for the evaluation of proposals, the review of PDP projects, and to make recommendations to the AC regarding grant funding. The PDP Committee is a grant review committee that reviews, scores and selects proposals for the Professional Development Program Grants.

EPIC: The purpose of EPIC is to establish goals and programs to support farmers/ranchers and the ag organizations that serve them across the Southern region.

Communications: This committee facilitates the communication of SARE projects and outreach success stories to promote sustainable agriculture and SARE in the Southern region. It is also a link to other regions and the national office to inform the dialogue about sustainable issues.

Every Administrative Council member serves on one of the three review committees, as well as one of the other standing committees. Some producer members will serve on more than one review committee.

Each subcommittee elects its own chair and vice chair and brings to each Administrative Council meeting a slate of agenda items to be discussed. These can be information-only items or a request for a motion to bring an item to the full Administrative Council for a vote.

Reviewing Grant Proposals

The Project Review Committee, the Producer Grant Committee and the Professional Development Program Committee are all review committees of the Administrative Council. Administrative Council Members assigned to these subcommittees are responsible for approving Calls for Proposals, and reviewing, scoring and selecting proposals for funding for each grant cycle. Reviewing and selecting proposals for funding is the most important task of serving on the Administrative Council.
