Young Scholar Enhancement Grant Review Criteria

All funding of Young Scholar Enhancement Grants is awarded competitively and more proposals may be submitted than receive funding.

Upon closure of the grant deadline, proposals receive a review by the Project Review Committee of Southern SARE's Administrative Council, the program's governing body.

The review process is simple, involving only two questions and a fundability recommendation.

The review questions include the following:

  • The proposal demonstrates that the Young Scholar will experience a meaningful research or education project related to sustainable agriculture.
  • The funds for this proposed project enhance the existing Research and Education Grant project, OR the existing Education Grant project.
  • The fundability recommendation asks the reviewer to indicate "yes" or "no" if the project should be funded. A revise/resubmit option is also available.

Based on the comments and the fundability recommendation, the Project Review Committee brings forth recommended proposals for funding to the Executive Committee.
